MOVEMENT 2: THERAPY MANILA FEAT. JOJO FLORES @ TIME IN MANILA

No, I am not talking about any medical-related therapy here... I speak of the music therapy session of Dj Jojo Flores for Manila on April 30, 2011. Therapy is an underground music that goes beyond providing a remedy. It is a cure.... luscious and profound, Therapy offers refuge, unity and pride! Since 1999, Therapy has been the purveyor of soulful music through garage, deep house and afro-latino rhythms.

This Saturday, April 30 at TIME, 7840 Makati Avenue, Manila, Philippines is one hell of a gig that house music lovers shouldn't miss! MOVEMENT will be presenting a night of the next-level quality in club music sound.  Sweet and soulful melodies, profound and jazzy vibes are what you can expect from this internationally-acclaimed DJ, Jojo Flores.

Dj Jojo Flores is a world-renowned Dj/Producer who was voted as Stylus House Dj of the Year, New York Underground Archives Best International Dj for four years. More known as New York City's Best International Dj, the boundlessness of his skills does not go unnoticed in Montreal, Canada (his home town) where he won Montreal's 1998 Best Club Dj Sounds of Blackness Award and has been consistently rated as one of Montreal's Top 3 DJs for three years in a row!

Considered as an ambassador of Montreal's soulful dance music and the city's hottest deep house garage export, this guy has established honorary residencies in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Toronto.

Here's a little more on Dj Jojo Flores... the guy is the inventor, innovator, resident dj and founder of internationally renowned Therapy night which is Canada'’s longest running and most successful weekly Deep House Garage soirée.  He is also the CEO and A&R of Gotsoul Recordings (GOTSOUL... who hasn't heard about it here?!).  Gotsoul Recordings is a production company and recording label dedicated to the worldwide distribution of vinyl and CDs and was recently awarded the number one independent record label in Montreal.

The challenge of never knowing what to expect from a crowd is what consistently drives Jojo Flores to provide a  solid groove. And the world is unanimous: Jojo Flores has been booked for high profile events presented by Roots, UMM, M.A.C., The Montreal Jazz Festival of Lights, The Toronto Jazz Festival, NYC’s Pablo de Ritis of Wallpaper Magazine, Phat Farm, Bacardi and Hugo Boss. He has played at events attended and/or hosted by Reverend Run of Run DMC, Russell Simmons, Jody Watley, Samuel L. Jackson, Angelina Jolie, Prince Andrew, and Wesley Snipes.  Jojo Flores maintains his street credibility by jacking bodies both at high society gigs for places like Marquee(NYC) and at underground grass roots parties like “Bang the Party” (NYC) and “Deep” (LA). He has furthermore spun with heavyweight DJs Jazzy Jeff, “Little” Louie Vega, Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, Blaze and Derrick Carter.

The reason for Jojo Flores'’ success is a simple ricochet effect... the love and support he receives keeps him going strong. Jojo Flores keeps the vibe alive with determination, passion, and the upstanding mission to touch the heart of the ones who love music as much as he does.

So what else should we expect on Therapy Manila? 3 levels of quality music, rooftop party, positive vibes, a night for the dancers & music connoisseurs. Supported by the best Djs in the Metro... PHIL YOUNGHUSBAND... THE MANIA LIVES ON!

Yes... woot! woot!... the mania lives on for my friend, Phil Younghusband thus; me releasing these latest photos of him.

Phil! I'm waiting for when you're gonna find time to take your heli ride! :P

I don't think I should talk more about Phil... everyone can simply "Google" him and his impact in the country and so for the first time, I release a post that is like my mini skirts and dǝʞdǝʞ shorts... long enough to cover private parts but short enough to keep things interesting solely because of these two snap shots of Phil Younghusband here taken at the Kenny Rogers Roasters Hainanese Chicken blogger's conference. Yes, a new TVC will feature Phil and James Younghusband of the Philippine Football Team Azkals together with surfer Lorraine Lapus and professional triathlete Mica Tantuico.

See you around, Phil! :P

My super-talented relative, Vincent V. Garrucho who evolved from being an FM radio jock to a lot of things in life and who developed this penchant for photography in late November 2009 took these photos of Phil Younghusband.

Props to you, Vinky and thanks for getting me these photos of Phil!

ON LIFE MANAGEMENT DIFFICULTY

Sometimes in our lives, we get to realize that there are things in this world that money can't buy but we tend to realize them too late that we never know what we have till we lost them. Sometimes too, we need to put some break fluid in what we say... we give consideration and respect to make people happy which will make us eventually happy.

I speak of burnouts here especially when familiarity starts to breed contempt. We may have grown to be good people (although others don't see that sometimes) yet, we have to understand other people's needs to have their own lives too.... to have some break free time from helping us, protecting us and caring for us and our interests in life.

Somewhere along the way, there are people who don't complain because they are grateful to us to what we have done for them but when we say things we thought are not hurtful (like saying a joke) and they get hurt, they harbor ill-feelings inside waiting to explode when one is suffering from a burnout.

Burnout... Google it. Interest to earn money, loyalty, dedication will be diminished for people suffering from it. Having some time for their own lives, respect for their privacy, rest from work boundaries will matter more to these people as means to cope for emotional exhaustion.

How to prevent burnouts? Read "Signs, Symptoms, Causes and Coping Strategies".

THE SUN CAN'T HURT PEOPLE... PEOPLE DO

While getting some tan at the pool earlier, an adorable, very pretty 5 y.o. Fil-Am girl approached her and said, "Hi. The sun loves you. It doesn't hurt you. It hates me...burns me. I want mommy's skin and yours... Filipinas are beautiful. I'm half American."

I asked her, "How old are you? and what's your name?"

She said, "I'm 5. My name is Gabby. I think I have daddy's skin."

I asked, "Where are your parents?"

And she pointed at them.

I looked at Gabby's parents... the dad is indeed white but a good-looking one and the mom is a very pretty, tanned Filipina.

I looked back at Gab, smiled at her and said, "You're beautiful as you are, Gabby. You're way too young to find out that one day the world will adore you for the half-American, half-Filipino in you. The sun loves you... you just have young sensitive skin for now but when you grow up, you'll learn it can't hurt you if you're being careful enough. The sun doesn't hate. The sun loves everyone just as we all love it. The sun can't hurt people.... People hurt themselves and people hurt people. One day, you'll know these stuff but you are too young to worry about it. Right now, go jump in the pool with your floater. I'll watch you enjoy swimming under the sun... just don't go under it for too long."

With that, I was rewarded with a great smile, a thank you and she went for a swim. :))

A DIVING EXPERIENCE IN PARADISE GONE WRONG

Diving in the Philippines is all year-round but the best time is generally from December to April. The monsoon season starts July to September. The hottest months are April, May and June with temperatures over 32 oC. Water temperatures all year round are 27-31oC. This is one of the reasons why millions dive here in the Philippines aside from the fact that the entire archipelago has thousands of dive spots to offer.

Airgurus Ltd. Co., the only professional air ambulance and medical evacuation provider in the Philippines did the medevac/medical evacuation of a 24 years old male Israeli from Puerto Princessa, Palawan last April 1, 2011.

This diver from Israel had two pleasurable dives in Palawan, Philippines. His first dive started at 11am and the second dive was at 2pm when something happened. It was when the Israeli diver figured in diving mishap. He had himself checked right away at a District Hospital and was initially diagnosed with mediastinal emphysema which required him to be rapidly transported  to a hyperbaric chamber anywhere in the Philippines. Airgurus flew this diver from Puerto Princesa, Palawan to St. Luke's Hospital Global City as advised by his insurance company.

Mediastinal emphysema is one of the maladies that can afflict underwater underwater divers who breathe compressed air. As a diver descends, the external pressure upon his increases. The air he breathes is more dense and concentrated than the air breathed on the surface. While the diver remains deeply submerged, there is no difficulty. However, when he begins to ascend again, the external pressure decreases and the lungs begin to expand because the air inside has less pressure to contain it.  If the diver breathes normally or exhales as he ascends at a moderate rate, the extra gas pressure is relieved by exhaling. If the diver holds his breath, rises too rapidly, or has respiratory obstructions such as cysts, mucus plugs, or scar tissue, which do not permit sufficient release of air, the lungs become overinflated and rupture. Air bubbles can enter the veins and capillaries of the circulatory system directly, causing an air embolism, or they can travel through the lung tissue to other areas of the body.

In mediastinal emphysema, the air bubbles usually pass along the outside of blood vessels and the respiratory tubes (bronchi) until they reach the mediastinal cavity. This area contains the heart, major blood vessels, main bronchi and the trachea (air tube from nose and mouth). Air trapped in the mediastium expands as the diver continues to rise. The pressure may cause intense pain beneath the rib cage and in the shoulders; the expanding air may compress the respiratory passageways, making breathing difficult, and collapse blood vessels vital to circulation.

The symptoms of mediastinal emphysema may range from pain under the breastbone, shock, and shallow breathing to unconsciousness, respiratory failure, and cyanosis (blue coloring of the skin). In cases in which the symptoms are not severe, the air will be absorbed by the body, or it may be removed by inserting a long hypodermic needle into the mediastinum to draw off the air. If there is a respiratory or circulatory distress, the victim must be recompressed in a hyperbaric chamber so that the body can resume its' essential functions before the air is removed such as in the case of  the aforementioned diver.

Diving in the Philippines is a great experience but there are unexpected hazards that may come along with it if one is not being careful. Airgurus Ltd. Co. encourages local and foreign divers intending to dive in the Philippines to check their insurance companies and to make sure that air ambulance / medevac is covered.
