MOVEMENT 2: THERAPY MANILA FEAT. JOJO FLORES @ TIME IN MANILA

No, I am not talking about any medical-related therapy here... I speak of the music therapy session of Dj Jojo Flores for Manila on April 30, 2011. Therapy is an underground music that goes beyond providing a remedy. It is a cure.... luscious and profound, Therapy offers refuge, unity and pride! Since 1999, Therapy has been the purveyor of soulful music through garage, deep house and afro-latino rhythms.

This Saturday, April 30 at TIME, 7840 Makati Avenue, Manila, Philippines is one hell of a gig that house music lovers shouldn't miss! MOVEMENT will be presenting a night of the next-level quality in club music sound.  Sweet and soulful melodies, profound and jazzy vibes are what you can expect from this internationally-acclaimed DJ, Jojo Flores.

Dj Jojo Flores is a world-renowned Dj/Producer who was voted as Stylus House Dj of the Year, New York Underground Archives Best International Dj for four years. More known as New York City's Best International Dj, the boundlessness of his skills does not go unnoticed in Montreal, Canada (his home town) where he won Montreal's 1998 Best Club Dj Sounds of Blackness Award and has been consistently rated as one of Montreal's Top 3 DJs for three years in a row!

Considered as an ambassador of Montreal's soulful dance music and the city's hottest deep house garage export, this guy has established honorary residencies in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Toronto.

Here's a little more on Dj Jojo Flores... the guy is the inventor, innovator, resident dj and founder of internationally renowned Therapy night which is Canada'’s longest running and most successful weekly Deep House Garage soirée.  He is also the CEO and A&R of Gotsoul Recordings (GOTSOUL... who hasn't heard about it here?!).  Gotsoul Recordings is a production company and recording label dedicated to the worldwide distribution of vinyl and CDs and was recently awarded the number one independent record label in Montreal.

The challenge of never knowing what to expect from a crowd is what consistently drives Jojo Flores to provide a  solid groove. And the world is unanimous: Jojo Flores has been booked for high profile events presented by Roots, UMM, M.A.C., The Montreal Jazz Festival of Lights, The Toronto Jazz Festival, NYC’s Pablo de Ritis of Wallpaper Magazine, Phat Farm, Bacardi and Hugo Boss. He has played at events attended and/or hosted by Reverend Run of Run DMC, Russell Simmons, Jody Watley, Samuel L. Jackson, Angelina Jolie, Prince Andrew, and Wesley Snipes.  Jojo Flores maintains his street credibility by jacking bodies both at high society gigs for places like Marquee(NYC) and at underground grass roots parties like “Bang the Party” (NYC) and “Deep” (LA). He has furthermore spun with heavyweight DJs Jazzy Jeff, “Little” Louie Vega, Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, Blaze and Derrick Carter.

The reason for Jojo Flores'’ success is a simple ricochet effect... the love and support he receives keeps him going strong. Jojo Flores keeps the vibe alive with determination, passion, and the upstanding mission to touch the heart of the ones who love music as much as he does.

So what else should we expect on Therapy Manila? 3 levels of quality music, rooftop party, positive vibes, a night for the dancers & music connoisseurs. Supported by the best Djs in the Metro... Djs Kristian Hernandez (Heavy Boogie, Gotsoul Manila), Elian Habayeb (Music and Wine), Benjo Marquez and Mr. Marcus on Percussions (Tribomanila).

DEPECHE MODE DJ SET IN MANILA!

After Bob Sinclar at the World Trade Center, Republiq and Driven Manila bring you the DEPECHE MODE DJ Set featuring Andy Fletcher on February 24, 2011 at Republiq, Resorts World!!!

Andy Fletcher has spent his recent downtime between DM albums touring extensively as a DJ.  He has played festivals (Creamfields, Pukkelpop, Sonar, Get Loaded) and club nights around the world particularly Spain, Italy, Germany, Eastern Europe as well as Greece, Istanbul, Russia & Israel.  He has also been on DJ tour in 5 countries in South America.  Andy is now very excited to be taking his DJ tour to Bucharest, Ukraine and Australia/Asia in early 2011.

"I really enjoy DJing, it's great to get eye contact in smaller venues again as I'm used to playing to tens of thousands of people with DM.  And it's great to be able to select tracks I like from any era and in any style."

"In general I don't tend to play any one style but my set is loosely based on my heritage with Depeche Mode - electro both old and new from the Human League to Alex Metric.  I'll be playing brand new DM mixes from respected producers such as Eric Prydz & Vince Clarke and classic old mixes such as Personal Jesus by Francois K.  You can expect some surprises as well as I've been working on a few things in the studio especially for this forthcoming DJ tour."

“It feels like a good time to be out DJing again, with a new DM remix album out in March 2011.  The last remix collection was hugely successful and this one is shaping up to be just as exciting – an interesting mix of favourite classic mixes and brand new future classic mixes.”

So there you go, folks! Didn't we say at Driven Manila that Bob Sinclar was just the beginning? ;-) For sponsorship, VIP and table reservations, see this...

Fletch will surely rock Republiq!!! You absolutely can't afford to miss this!!!

BOB SINCLAR LIVE IN MANILA: THE AFTERMATH

It was a huge success! Bob Sinclar didn't just prove that he's one of the top most recognized names in dance music anywhere in the world, he also proved to people in the Philippines that indeed, he is one amazing, prolific artist and a dj! He shook the World Trade Center of the Philippines with his love for music!

Bob Sinclar... oftenly mistaken as "Sinclair" is actually Christophe Le Friant born May 10, 1969 in Douarnenez, France. He is a Grammy Award-nominated French record producer, House Music Dj, remixer and owner of the label, Yellow Productions.

In 2005 he scored a hit with the single "Love Generation", that reached #1 on the Australian ARIA Singles Charts and the German Media Control Single Charts in 2006. The song was a huge success throughout Europe, also peaking at no. 2 in the Dutch Top 40 and it stood 39 weeks in the Ultratop 50 in Belgium. It became one of the official anthems for the World Cup 2006 held in Germany.

The follow-up hit was "World, Hold On", that features Steve Edwards and also managed to chart in the top ten in most of the European countries. "Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now)" followed on 22 August 2006. The remix of "World, Hold on" by E-Smoove was nominated for a Grammy in 2007 in the category of Remixed Recording. Also, "World, Hold On" topped in Billboard Magazine as Number One Hot Dance Club Play Single of 2006, beating Madonna and Christina Aguilera. Since then, he became a global household name in the dance music industry!

Bob Sinclar was brought to Manila last January 15, 2011 by the Ambassador of Cheers and Good Vibes in Manila... dance party producer Domini Primero of  Driven Manila and Avant Artists. The prolific dj performed at the World Trade Center in Manila in front of thousands of beautiful thumping party animals and boy, it was just way too great to describe!

When Bob Sinclar played, he became my guilty pleasure. I am not overweight and I don't hate exercising but this was one big party that really kept my feet jumping around from the start till the end of his set except for moments that I had to catch my breath! I also had the privilege of being there onstage with him together with my photography partner, Vincent Garrucho thus; these images you see here are from our lenses.

The whole time I was beside him or behind him on stage, there were times that I carefully sized-up Bob Sinclar as I peer through the lens of my Canon EOS 450D. He is indeed very unpredictable and most prolific! I look at the crowd below us... jumping non-stop, ladies screaming non-stop, men kept their hands on air non-stop as they move to every single rhythmic track Bob Sinclar unleashed! I have never before seen in Manila a huge dancing crowd moving in consistency!

I'd like to talk now about how Bob Sinclar is in person. Meeting Bob Sinclar and having the great  privilege to talk to him as he relaxes while awaiting for his set is just awesome experience.  I sat beside him... tried to be cool (even though i felt like wanting to ask him a thousand questions) but I refrained. He's a smiling person but a man of very few words... very mysterious to me.

When he listens to people talking, his eyes have this seemingly relaxed but piercing look. I think it's the artist in him. Then he suddenly asked, "How's the crowd outside?" and I replied nervously, "Bob, the world trade center is really jam-packed... they are waiting for you." then he nodded, smiled and said "That is good". He then noticed my production ID and asked, "Can I have one of that for souvenir later?" and I said, "Yes of course, Bob... will give it to you later". With a nod and  his simple smile at me, it meant "thank you". He then went back to his quiet moments.

Then, it was time for him to go up on the stage...and he transformed! From a simple, sweet-smiling, quiet, mysterious man he was back stage, he became a major flirt...like a playboy...like a high class gigolo... like a hardcore porn star! He was onstage, a world-class rock star and boy!... did he rock World Trade Center!

I was there... I've witnessed how this man transformed himself from a man battling fatigue and jet lag to his greatness... a very energetic and playful person! On the wheels of steel, he got himself at the peak of his power!

Listening, dancing, singing, taking his up close and personal photos, I keep on telling myself.... Bob Sinclar is legendary!

This is all for you, Bob! It was a great pleasure meeting you and thank you for giving us Filipinos an awesome party here in Manila, Philippines!

BOB SINCLAR LOVE GENERATION PARTY 01.15.11. IN MANILA

Bob Sinclar is ready to hit Manila party animal's hearts a month earlier than Valentines 2011 with LOVE GENERATION... Manila's first big party in 2011 at the World Trade Center!

Start marking your planners with the following:
✔ WORLD TRADE CENTER MANILA
✔ JANUARY 15, 2011
✔ LOVE GENERATION WITH BOB SINCLAR
Get to know Bob...
Bob Sinclar has always been hopelessly nostalgic. Even now, as a DJ of worldwide renown, the star of clubs all over the planet, he has never ceased to be that curious adolescent transported by music, building his universe from rhythms that take him to another place.

Over two decades he has shared with the public his devouring passion for both rare grooves and dancefloor tempos. The hits kept coming, the public image was forged through a string of hit club tracks and brilliant remixes. But Chris isn't just Bob Sinclar, star of the discotheque. Above all, he is mad about sound, thirsty for discovery. So, to start 2010 on an original note, Chris decided on a change of scene.

"I remix my tracks every year, and I thought it would be a good idea this time to go back at look at them differently. Nowadays, music is so electronic, formatted, and I always like to surprise people," he explains. So, next stop Kingston, where a crack team – including those responsible for Serge Gainsbourg's classic dub album Aux Armes etc. (and several others) – were waiting for him.

"I was a big fan of Serge Gainsbourg. He made his production style evolve over the years and came to work in Kingston with two of reggae's living legends, Sly & Robbie," explains Chris. "So I went to Kingston in search of positive vibes that I could share with people.

The Sly Dunbar/Robbie Shakespeare rhythm section, Robbie Lyn on keyboards, Sticky Thompson on percussion and Mikey 'Mao' Chung on guitar: the crème de la crème of old school reggae present for an authentic one drop renovation of modern tunes such as "The Beat Goes On", "What A Wonderful World", "World Hold On" and "Love Generation" with a reduced tempo and added celestial backing singers. The majority of the original vocals remain, notably those of Steve Edwards, Gary Pine (on "Give A Little Love") and Tony Rebel (on "Jamaica Avenue"). Others have been added, such as those by Queen Ifrica, discovered on Bob's last album, Born In 69. Plus – an amazing surprise – Grace Jones, on her way through Kingston, expressed her admiration for the reggae version of "Kiss My Eyes", a homage to Nightclubbing, the 1981 album she also recorded with Sly & Robbie.

"What I'm doing is anti-club," says Chris bluntly. "I'm a DJ and I'm passionate about dance music, but I wanted to try and open it up to a different style." True to his wishes, not dictated by fashions or formats, Chris has rebuilt his world through the prism of old school reggae. The result? A heartfelt, exciting album of rare originality. The album of a man passionate about his art, choosing to surround himself with the best in the business in order to reinvent himself. The album of a man who loves music. The album of someone hopelessly nostalgic, in tune with his passion. Kingston style.

Hope to catch you partying with me there... It's going to be a great start of the year to dance with the LOVE GENERATION piper! Don't forget... 01.15.11.

LAIDBACK LUKE'S GREATNESS ISN'T BORN... IT'S GROWN!

Laidback Luke a.k.a. Luke van Scheppingen... Dutch Producer and ranking #17 Best Dj in the World for 2010 has indeed grown to his greatness.

I kept track of this guy even before I heard of Dj Tiesto. I have been a fan of Netherlands' brightest house music talent not because I knew from my colleagues in the industry that he is Filipino (born in Manila, Philippines) like me but because of his being a prolific dj... which made him evolve into one of the biggest stars in the global dance music scene!

My friends and I found ourselves confronting a massive super crowd of house music party animals upon entry alone not to mention the huge dance floor at Republiq Club, Resorts World Manila last night just to get closer to Laidback Luke. By some high power vested upon me (thanks to Philippines' dance events major honcho, Domini Primero), I made it past the huge crowd to the VIP area. See my 1 minute video of the venue and of Laidback Luke...

The VIP sideline usually does not make me happy because I love to dance and so, I went right in front of the maestro... the dj who has the golden hand in blending face-slapping and uncompromising house music beats that kept Republiq moving! See my two minutes video of him hereunder...

Madness!!! As I enjoyed his set till the end, I kept praying for some miracle that Laidback Luke would take off the cool shirt with "MADNESS" written on it and throw it right in front of me! LOL!!! Hey, I'm a girl... and he's cute!!! Props to Laidback Luke for wearing the coolest shirts in all of his gigs worldwide!

Laidback Luke is indeed born with the amazing talent. As he danced with his music and smiled at me a couple of times to make me move more, it simply foretells that this guy knows that greatness isn't born.... it's grown!

Thanks to you, Luke... I'm in dire need of a good massage right now from all the dancing I did because you made it such a great night! Fly high, Pinoy! Cheers and good vibes!

LAIDBACK LUKE LIVE AT REPUBLIQ 12.10.10.

Luke is laid back about everything except music. Since landing a new entry – 46 – in DJ magazine's Top 100 DJs Poll of 2008, it's clear that Holland's homeboy is on fire like never before. It's why he was selected to ignite the Stealth Live! CD series with a near perfect club mix. Why he was snapped up for a weekly Friday show by French station Radio FG. Why his own party, Super You&Me, is such a winner. Why he is bustin' up bassbins from Australia to the Americas – and ripping up a storm working with everyone from Diplo to Tiësto. Yes, Luke's stratospheric success befits his world-beating talents and is reaching new levels of hotness in 2009!

2009 is Luke's craziest year yet. His collaboration with the Swedish House Mafia, 'Leave The World Behind', was an Essential New Tune on Pete Tong's Miami show – and, as of July 2009, is Beatport's best-selling track of the year. His Super You&Me party at club Louis during WMC was also an incredible success, starring some sick tag-team antics from Diplo & A-Trak before Luke closed the show. Plus, Luke & Diplo have produced a dancefloor slayer called 'Hey' on Southern Fried. This is supported by DJs like Kissy Sell Out, on his Radio 1 show, where Luke's track with Lee Mortimer, 'Blau', received airplay. Naturally, Luke's remix talents are equally in demand – just see Martin Solveig's 'Boys & Girls' and MSTRKRFT featuring John Legend's 'Heartbreaker'. To top it off, he has remixed David Guetta and traded remixes with Tiësto. Meanwhile, Luke's own killer track 'My G*O*D* (My Guns On Demo)' is scorching floors, and he's always testing new artillery on his travels. Touring in 2009 has seen Luke continue to blaze a trail from Australia to Ibiza, where he played for David Guetta's Fuck Me I'm Famous party at Pacha, and with Roger Sanchez for Release Yourself at Amnesia. Further marking his transition to major league status, this year has also seen him nominated for best House DJ in Ibiza's DJ Awards.

Luke (Luke van Scheppingen) was born in Manila, Philippines, but grew up in the Netherlands. He loved guitars, graffiti, hip-hop and house, and found a mentor in Dobre (Chocolate Puma). He was just a teenager when he began producing, taking the 'laid back' tag from Snoop Dogg's 'Gin & Juice'. Yet by 1995 he was putting out tracks and from 96 was remixing for established artists, in addition to DJing professionally. Once beating a Dutch DMC champ in battle, Luke showed the world how he rolls: skilfully fusing an array of flavours, edits, bootlegs and a cappellas into a slick signature style. He even released an album, Psyched U, in 1999. But it wasn't until Virgin signed 'Rocking With The Best' and released his 2002 album, Electronic Satisfaction, that his profile soared. Luke's Dance Valley anthem, 'We Can Not Get Enough', then blew up. He also mixed his first compilation, Windmill Skill. His discography was therefore already looking prolific as he remixed Daft Punk (who were a huge early influence), Murk, Oliver Lieb and Tom Stephan. And to up the output in 2004, he introduced his own label, Mixmash.

Proud to be Filipino! Superstar DJ Laidback Luke Live at Republiq on Friday
December 10, 2011. Laidback Luke is ranked 17th best DJ in the world for 2010!
